Blog Title: What are you holding on to?

The first step to moving forward often lies in the ability to let go of the past.  I’m not talking about running away from, or erasing the experiences that you have had up until now.  Rather, releasing the energy of those past experiences and memories that may be weighing you down and preventing you from going any further.

Why is it so important to move forward?  Well, because that’s what life on this earth is all about.  From the day we are born, we are launched into a continuous journey of growth, development and change physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

The physical portion of that journey may come to an end at the time of the body’s death, but the spiritual part continues.

You may wish to stop or slow down time on occasion.  You may resist that forward momentum at times, but there is nothing much you can do about it.  Your body is going to develop, grow and change regardless of your ability to accept it, or your ability to let go of where you have been and who you once were.

Imagine that you kept every physical thing you ever owned or created from the day you were born.  Imagine that you never threw away, recycled or destroyed any toy, book, item of clothing, piece of paper, electronic device, bicycle, car – the list is endless.  It would be pretty impossible to move for all the clutter!

The same is true of energy.  If you never let go of the energy of your past friendships, relationships, encounters, experiences, events, it would be hard to move forward, to have the desire to grow and learn more because of the sheer weight of what you are trying to hold on to, or because of the drag you feel from the parts of yourself you have left behind in those experiences, relationships, etc.

So, what are you holding on to?

  • What event in your life can you not forget?
  • Who can you not get out of your head or stop thinking about?
  • What do you have a hard time forgiving yourself for?
  • What conversations do you replay over and over again in your head, wishing you had found a different or better way to say what you meant?

The answers you get will be your key to the energy of what and who you are holding on to.

The next step involves recognizing that, just as you can let go of, recycle or throw away physical possessions and clutter, you can also let go of energy that may be cluttering your space.  When you let go of a physical possession, you still have the memory of that item.  The same goes for letting go of energy.

Find a comfortable place to sit.  Close your eyes and breathe.  Imagine a line that extends down from the base of your spine all the way to the center of the earth.   This helps your body to feel safe and connected or grounded.

Now, imagine a huge, clear bubble out in front of you.  Start to recognize all the energy of past experiences, encounters, events that you are holding on to.  Imagine putting all that energy in the bubble in front of you.  When that bubble is full to bursting, pop it and allow all that energy to be released.  Repeat as necessary.

You might be amazed at how much lighter you feel.  When practiced on a regular basis, you will reap the benefits of increased energy, enthusiasm and excitement for life!  This is something that can be done at home and in your own time.  What could be better than that?

It’s time to let go and move forward!
