Blog Title: Who’s on your team?

villageThe say it takes a village to raise a child…….

Well I’d like to address applying that same philosophy and principle to attaining and maintaining wellness……

Western medicine, particularly, tends to compartmentalize the care of the body. Doctors specialize in one area or system within the physical form and treat only that part. The belief being that curing the symptoms or illness in that one area will make everything better.

Even alternative therapies offering a more holistic approach to wellness, until recently, tended to have an energy of exclusivity to them. The belief being that the therapeutic method itself could meet ALL the needs of the individual.

And then there are those who believe that prayer or meditation is all that is needed in order to maintain health and wellbeing. Some believers even refusing medical treatment because of their faith.

Now, however, what I am observing in my healing practice is a growing trend among people to assemble and work with a team of practitioners to assist in their path to and maintenance of wellness and, more slowly, a growing acceptance on the part of practitioners that this is OK.

In other words, practitioners in all fields of healthcare be it physical, spiritual, mental or emotional are more readily granting space for their clients, patients or parishioners to consult and work with a variety of therapists and therapies at the same time.

This is a good thing!!

chakrasThis trend is coming from a growing awareness of the complexities involved in chakras living our unique individual lives. Not in a negative way. Not from the standpoint that life as a spirit in a body is a problematic burden. In fact quite the opposite. It is a recognition and embracing of the depth, breadth and dimensions of our being – soul, spirit, body, mind, emotions, etc. It is coming about as a result of people wanting to be more actively involved and even in control of their health and wellness.

There are even some group healing practices in operation where you can consult with, for example, a medical doctor, a chiropractor, a nutritionist, a psychologist, a homeopath, a massage practitioner – all of whom are working together and referring their patients and clients for a variety of therapies and treatments within the practice.

Could this really become the standard of healthcare in the future? I do hope so!
