When was the last time you sat down and had a conversation with your body? – one that wasn’t a one-sided diatribe or “dressing down” concerning all you dislike about it, how it has let you down once again and sustained some kind of injury, or succumbed to a virus or illness that is cramping your style…..
More often than not, when I am working with someone who is unwell or injured, they will refer to the injured part or the illness as “stupid” – “my stupid foot”, or “this stupid cold” – freely expressing their frustration or disappointment with the slow and lengthy healing process. Yes, I have even done this myself!
And one lesson I have learned over the years, is that bodies respond better to positive energy, communication and encouragement, than to negative energy and images. Telling your foot that it’s stupid and not healing fast enough is NOT going to improve its ability to heal or get better!
If you believe that everything happens for a reason, then illnesses and injuries fall into this category also. What is your body telling you? Perhaps it fell down that step because YOU were otherwise occupied, distracted and not paying attention. Maybe you caught that flu virus because your immune system was run down from all the stress in your life and it just needs to lie down for a while…….
When you go out to eat, do you consider how the food you are craving is going to be received and digested by your body? Do you choose something from the menu knowing full well that you will pay for it later?
We are all guilty of abusing our bodies at some time in our lives.
Then again, looking at the other side of the coin, I know and have worked with people who “do everything right” with and for their body. They eat healthily, avoid alcohol, doctors and drugs, work out regularly, meditate, practice yoga and wonder why they can’t lose weight, or why they get sick, injured and can’t heal….
Whether we are ignoring, over-riding, or “doing everything right” for our body, it is important to recognize that having a physical body is like any relationship – there are ups and downs and never-ending opportunities for growth and learning. There is no one magic formula because your body is continually changing as it moves through the seasons, years and stages of development – childhood, adolescence, adulthood, old age.
The inner workings of the physical body are so intricate, automatic and even subtle that they mostly go unnoticed until something malfunctions, or falls out of balance. It is because of this, and the trend of our culture to leave knowledge of those inner workings to experts, that most of us have little or no conscious communication with our body.
So where do you start? If it feels awkward for you to sit down and have a conversation with your body, a good place to begin that dialog is during a session of Intuitive Touch Healing. Your healer is trained to create space for you to communicate with and become more conscious of your physical body in a neutral, safe, grounded environment.
Receiving a hello to both body and spirit simultaneously through touch gives your body permission to relax and you the ability to see your relationship with your body in a different light.
You may even discover that you begin to know more intuitively what does or does not work for your body in terms of diet and exercise which, in itself, can save you a lot of time, energy and frustration involved with seeking and trying out new and different health regimens.
Make the decision today to become best friends with your body! You won’t regret it!
